US Amateur Sectional Qualifier

Day one of the US Amateur tournament today. The only negative is that it rained for 12 hrs yesterday. The good news is we only received 2.6 inches of rain. Although there is no standing water, the ground is completely saturated. When I asked the tournament director what he wanted to do he just said "I'm going to tell them to play hard!"

The course is really in excellent condition. The staff has been dialing in turf conditioning for weeks to prepare for today and tomorrow. Our Assistant Superintendent, Trevor Floyd, has done an excellent job of coordinating all the efforts to get us ready.  Even a little wet, the course is better than most.

Still raining

Over the past week the course has not had a day where it received less than an inch of rain. Needless to say the course is soaked! There's no standing water but the ground in certain areas is saturated. Due to the weather, I have had the staff stay of the course as much as possible and that includes mowing the course. Looking at the forecast I don't think there's a reprieve in sight, and after 7 days of not mowing the fairways when we usually go no more than 2 days, today we had to roll the fleet of mowers out and cut what we can.

The quality if cut is not as crisp as it normally is, the detail work isn't as defined as it normally is, but at least now on most holes you can tell where the fairway stops and the roughs begin.

Rain......,,,

We are approaching 5 inches of rain in the last two days. Not too sure if the golf course is going to be able to be open tomorrow, be sure to call the golf shop if you have a tee time.
